The 7C228 is only used on M/T columns. Ford calls it "transmission gear shift lever socket to tube anti-vibration spring washer. 1.76" O.D.,1.435"/1.55" I.D. Part number B9AZ7C228A.
**************** AND *****************
7C228 basic number is also used in part number C7TZ7C228A. "Transmission gear shift lever seat washer. 2.07" O.D., 1.60" ( I think. There is a spot on my slide) I.D. , .22" thick.
3510 is a lower bearing seal retainer.
3517 is the bearing.
3518 is the sleeve for the bearing.

Column is assembled, not installed in truck.
I cannot get the lower, longer shift lever to move !!!
Top lever moves easily, I attached the gear changer shift arm and pulled up on arm to shift gears and lower lever does not move.
Does column have 2 b installed 4 it 2 move ???
If shift tube was too low in column the shifter handle would not install in hole of shift tube. I do not understand why lower shift lever does not move
I have all parts except the 72228 washer.

I'm going through the same thing. That spring washer led me this thread. If you haven't figured it out yet, you can't tighten that collar to tube down too tight, i.e. all the way down because you get your issue. That spring washer and bolts that tighten to the column tube act as an adjustment for the shift lever engagement of the shift tube.
