I have a 96 7.3 with 190,000 miles and yesterday as I was leaving work the truck died out as I was driving down the road after turning it over about 10 times it fired up and drove fine I changed the cps and it did it again this afternoon when I left work but started right up and drove fine. I recently had the oil changed and fuel filter replaced. Truck is stock no tuner. The bottom of the fuel bowl did have about 1/8” of dirt in it when I changed the filter last week I cleaned it all out before I installed new one. I do have a motor with 80k on it in my shop I was planning on dropping in because this truck had a little more blow by then what I liked when I bought it, just trying to get what I can out of this one.
Recommend checking your fuel pressure at idle and under load, especially if you have not had the tanks down to check the pickups/screens.
What brand CPS did you put in? Recommend motorcraft for sensors if possible.
Is the IPR nut tight? A loose or missing IPR nut can cause the solenoid to move and stall the engine.
If your truck support OBDII, it would be helpful to check ICP and IPR% to see if the high pressure oil system is working well with FORScan Lite. You can start a log and see if you can catch the stall in the act. Also would be good to see if you have any engine codes set.
