I had the same thing happen, 2018 went in for emissions warranty last year and now it high idles all the time if its sitting for more then a minute or two. Very annoying. Prior it just did it when the temps got cold much like my old 6.0 use to do.
It would be nice if the dealership would tell you when they are going to re-flash your truck and tell you what to expect. If there is another program flash update after this that will omit the high idle please let me know. If it is to c/m a wet stacking issue then I guess I'll have to live with it. Appreciate the post as I was curious if others had found the same thing.
It's best to keep a diesel at a high idle for anything longer than a minute or two. This keeps the soot load down so the EGR cooler has a longer life and cylinder wash doesn't become a problem.

The high idle is intentional and emissions related just like that reprogram. I wouldn't expect Ford to back track on it. The only way to avoid emmisions related reprograms and whatever side effects they might have would be to ask the service advisor what they plan to do at every visit.
I experienced the elevated idle for the 1st time recently. The reflash was done almost 2 years ago. The truck has idled for the same amount of time in the past but never did it increase RPM. This time the temps were in the upper 30's-low 40's and after a few minutes of idling from a cold start it kicked up to 1k RPM. I played around with it by hitting my actual high idle switch, and tapping the brake to see how it would react. It reacted in the same way as all others I've read about on here. To me it wasn't bothersome or a nuisance and if it is beneficial in some way I'm good with it.
Dave, are you aware you don't have to buy a high idle kit to idle the truck up? You only need a $2 resistor and a couple butt splice connectors to use an upfitter switch to idle it up. Have a read here for all the info > https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-pictures.html

Yeah I've heard that before... but of course I just saw this now and my kit is coming tomorrow... thanks Dirt and CJ, appreciate the offer...

I've had my truck go into a higher idle in prior years when it was close to zero degrees, on a cold start but last year the truck went into a self initiated stationary regen, RPMs went up, when I had it idling for awhile and I do not believe it's ever done that prior but maybe conditions were not right in the past for that to happen then, as indicated by my iDash... don't know what years your trucks are but is it possible that your trucks could have been in a stationary regen or no? Just thinking out loud here.
Just get the latest flash from the ford dealership if you want the high idle kit lol .
I just thought it was odd that after 10+ years of making the 6.7 that now they have to add a high idle even in warm temps. If it was such an issue you would think they would have done it long ago. In the cooler temps 100% agree with the engine kicking up.
