Maintenance Day

My 2013 is sitting at 102K right now and I wanted to to some PM and change all the fluids to include both diffs, the xfer case, power steering, brake, coolant and of course oil & filter. I've wanted a decent fluid evacuator for a long time after having a couple of plastic ones that would really only work on hot engine oil so I checked around on a couple of them and settled on a John Dow six gallon evacuator mainly because I found it for a good price on fleabay. It was able to pull the 3 quarts out of the front diff in about 10 minutes, the rear took about 20. Transfer case took seconds, same with brake fluid and power steering reservoirs. I even used it to change the oil in my wife's car and it siphoned 6 quarts through the dipstick in less than five minutes.

Yes, I know someone is going to tell me that by using this you don't get a chance to pull the covers from the front and rear diffs to inspect them. The condition of the fluid and the small amount of normal paste on the magnets told me there was no reason to otherwise I would have opened them.

I also like this one because you can pressurize it and attach a drain hose to drain it into a tank or container. HF sells a similar extractor but you empty it by opening a cap and dumping it out.

Nice and it appears that it would keep the oil mess to a bare minimum.

That's one of the main reasons I got it, nearly zero oil mess. After using it on a couple of vehicles, I honestly wish I had gotten one a long time ago...it's even easy to empty into a 5 gallon fuel jug to take to the store to dump out.
