Hello Everyone, I’m a California resident and just bought a ‘76 F-150 from Arizona. I know, I should have gotten a ‘75 instead. Wanted to see how to determine if it is a 50 state/CA emissions vehicle? I have decoded the vin and know it was produced in San Jose and also know that is was in Arizona (titled in AZ) for the past 25 years. There is no emissions sticker anywhere I can find. Any help would be much appreciated.
It seems like the regulatory people in CA could tell you. They deal with it regularly and are probably quite familiar with the details. I have a 1976 F-250 with a 460 engine. It was built in San Jose and spent most of its life in CA. It has vapor recovery & EGR, but no catalytic converter nor air pump.
I can't tell you what CA required in '76 but there wasn't any emissions nationally until 1978 and not until 79 on 3/4 tons.
You will find the emissions equipment very hard to find and expensive for 78-79 so if you need that same equipment that's a problem. . I know guys have been coming up here from CA for years and buying cheap POS 73-75's for the door tag and title so that might say something.

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking air pumps , cats and all the vacuum controls. the fuel gauge will always say " unleaded fuel only " if it was equipped with the true smog garbage. assuming the cluster is original.
Thanks all. Here’s what I found out based on your suggestions. DSO is Phoenix (not great), but the fuel gauge says ‘Fuel’. I’m going to talk to a smog guy today and see what is needed. Wanted to put crate 360 and rebuilt c-6 in but need to confirm I will eventually be able to smog. If not, I might have to let it go. Zero rust confirmed with paint meter
