Emissions question for washington state.
Hello again. I have a 2012 f-150 with the 5.0 liter engine. I am a little scared because the truck is not California emissions compliant. I bought it from a very large dealership. I have owned it for a year. I have already renewed tabs once. Am I eventually not going to be able to renew the tabs because its not California compliant? The truck was originally from Wisconsin but had Washington plates when I bought it. Would the DOL have told the dealer this when they got it? Or is the consumer(myself) that ends up getting screwed?

What county do you live in? By law it is the buyer's responsibility but if you have already renewed the tabs once I would not worry about it. I live in Thurston County where there are no emissions testing. I always assumed that anything produced 2009 and after would be CA emissions compliant. Are you sure it isn't compliant?

So after looking this up and checking on my own truck which is from Canada and does not meet California emissions, it states that if a vehicle has been previously registered and has over 7500 miles at the time of sale it is exempt.

If I read this right and you are in WA, not CA. You will be just fine. Not sure what CA does, Now that I'm in Hawaii they don't even have emition testing.....just safety check. Complete opposite from WA. Go figure.

If it is oem and running right you are ok in ca or wa. You need only pass the test for the vehicle as oem. Ca does not require refitting emission equipment. If it's modified it has to be put back to stock. If you are in wa what's the worry about ca anyway?
