The only way to get and keep air out of the radiator is to use a coolant recovery system. Coolant expands and is not compressible like air is. A radiator cap lets go at 13-15 pounds or so, and compressed air over a liquid raises the boiling point.

If you eliminated air and sealed the radiator with a solid cap, you have a bomb of sorts.

If you keep the pressure cap and then fill it with coolant and purge all air ... it is going to purge coolant the very first heat cycle, and suck air in on the next cool down. A coolant recovery system lets it pull coolant back in that it purged during the heat cycle.

Wow......This post is so needed & informative...........
For years I have seen overflow tanks made out of beer cans......Peak antifreeze jugs..........etc......I have asked & tried to figure out how to make one with a recovery hose on it
I spent lots of time trying & had no success . My mind was not as not working too good at the time & it ,was hard to stay focused...........Now it is almost normal...........ha...
Anyway.......This may explain why I have antifreeze at the bottom of my radiator at random times instead of it leaking . I have had it supposedly fixed twice but I still have a small amount of fluid at various times......So maybe there is still hope...........I did not want to buy a tank because they are very expensive .......well the nice small ones are.....
Anyway your help is much HELP...........Thanx so much...........
