Wink NUT CUTTING

Some ole timers or farmers know what I mean.............
Anyway.....I am extremely close to having my cherished stray truck on the road after too many years of blah blah....... and fun.........
I need some odds & ends :
How do I get air out of my radiator, a good source for grommets, a good cheap DRY speedometer lube,
Also the bell housing boot was missing, I installed another one, should I clean inside because there has 2 b something in there , I have no idea how long boot was gone, how do you suggest i clean in there, ( easily )
What is proper brake fluid to use, I may have 1 or 2 more needs but that is almost all I remember I lack ( 4 now ).......thank GOD........I pray nothing goes bad wrong when I put a few miles on it...........Any ideas for home-made window felt pieces & arm rest,
Down 2 the nut cutting.............ha.........

Radiator should self purge as long as the fill point is the highest point in the system. If you are having problems, try jacking the front end up as far as you can.

These trucks came with DOT3 brake fluid. That's what I always use. If you decide to switch, be prepared to completely clean out all of the old DOT3 first.

I don't know about the rest.

THANK-YOU davelj Good 2 hear about the radiator !!! I guess I have nothing to worry about.
I did some research & I read that DOT 3, 4, 5.1 are mixable. DO NOT MIX DOT 5, IT IS SILICONE based.
DOT 3 or 4 is what I plan to use. DOT 4 is rated higher temperature wise, but is probably more expensive !!!

I prefer to use "Bosch ESI 6" brake fluid. It is compatible with DOT 3, 4 and DOT5.1. In fact it exceeds all of DOT3,4 and 5.1 standards. I buy it at RockAuto.com. You can get an assortment of rubber grommets at Harbor Freight or McMaster-Carr.

Basically You can use whatever you want for brake fluid. But you have to take into consideration that dot 3 already exceeds the requirements of The system. It's an old pickup truck, not a Lamborghini race car.

About the brake fluid: Like you I'm getting a truck back on the road after an extended time parked/stored/neglected. I flushed the brake system using DOT 3, and it's working just fine. However, I replaced the master cylinder and booster, all three flex brake lines, and the rear wheel cylinders (because one was a leaker) before I did the flush. Those flex brake lines get to a point where they can swell and/or split under pressure. The master cylinder went bad after maybe 250 miles of easy driving while I was checking stuff out.
Good Luck with the project!

That is true.........I do plan 2 increase the horse power but I will not be racing...........well it will b a year or to at least. I do have THOUGHTS of maybe running it on a drag strip MAYBE
I WILL BE INCREASING THE HORSEPOWER, how much I do not know.
I did not know DOT 3 exceeds the requirements, so I may stick with that !!!!!!!!!! THANK-YOU VERY MUCH

HAHA. It is not DOT 6(no such animal), that is just the model number from Bosch. I use the same fluid and love the metal can.

Harley Davidson supposedly makes a real good cable lube for brake cables. But since it is H.D., it's probably not cheap. I would pull the cable core out and wipe a "thin" coat of Vaseline on it.
As far as the brake fluid goes, I too would use Dot 3 out of a new and unopened bottle. Never use Dot 3,4,or 5.1 brake fluid out of an old bottle that had previously been opened. Once opened the brake fluid starts sucking moisture out of the air. These brake fluids are hydroscopic which is why it's looking for that moisture. One doesn't want to introduce that moisture to their brake system. That is what causes brake lines to rust from the inside out.

Runs Good...will run Better Eventually
I think I will go with silicon spray since I have a brand new can I bought on sale & never used yet. I think it is almost dry & supposedly very, very slick
Here is pic of my " Amazing 302 " ha The engine does run good ...........
On the firewall there is a bolt sticking out with nothing on it, just a bolt, is this where the ground wire bolts on to the intake ? I do not want to run a ground to maybe a bracket bolt for an accessory if that is what this is !!!

I have some tidying up to do, run the wires better & heat the shrink wrap, I have better valve covers, & plug wires.......etc...etc...far from finished...........
I must say I am proud of the way i got lucky & connected the Holley 2300 to the factory linkage. It lines up almost perfect, with no strain on the accelerator/throttle bushing

Bolt?

The bolt mounts the bracket for the windshield wiper motor.
