Hey all, I have installed gt40p heads with the trick flow spring kit on my 351w. I have the stock cam also. Anyone have a problem with the stock rocker arm hitting the valve spring retainer? I have been fighting valvetrain noise and got it narrowed down to this. There are slight wear marks on the rocker arm as well from the retainer. Any input?
The exhaust side has the keeper location about .100 shorter so if they are providing 2 retainers to allow you to have the same installed height on the intake and the exhaust then some might be mixed up as suggested by wwhite.
Before you installed the springs, did you measure the height from spring seat to spring retainer using the supplied height gauge?
Spec should be something like:
- The supplied gauge is 1.800” tall; correct installed height should be 1.800” +-.015”.
- Use the appropriate shim to adjust the installed height if needed.
If space is larger, you should have put shims in. If the space is larger and you did not put shims in, there's your noise, and possibility of dropping a valve.
It kinda does. I've set preload at 3/4 turn to torque and it still rattles but not all of them do it. Lifters are pumping up good also. I'm running a stock cam and have been thinking of 1.73 roller rockers.
Update. I got the dirty hag to be quiet. I found the offending rocker and when I put pressure on it with a rubber hammer while running. I then proceeded to play with a bucket of arms/pedestals til I found one that would make it quiet. Good to go now.
