Machine shop said my 360 fe needs bored to 040, running Edelbrock RPM heads, so no one makes a 040 headgasket , So what size headgasket should I use to get around 9.5 to1 to run on reg pump gas?
Check the specs on any head gasket you find. Most are oversized other than OEM parts.
As to what gasket to get 9.5 out of a 360, it doesn't matter what you do, you will not see 9.5 out of a Ford 360 with the OEM spec pistons. The piston sits over .100, maybe close to .120 down the hole. You can't make that up with headgasket thickness or lack of it, let alone the bore size.
What size combustion chambers do those heads have? 72cc it says on the Edelbrock site. That's about the same as the OEM chamber.
Thanks @85e150 I do remember they sit down in the cylinder now that you said that. I have 2 sets of pistons, DSS Racing K2-5000-4090 is -5cc and DSS-K2-5003-4090 is -10 cc.
So you still are making a 360, with the 3.5" stroke and the long rod?
With the 5cc piston, a 4.165 diameter gasket compressed to .023, 10.17" deck, 1.775 compression height, 3.50 stroke, 6.54 rod & 72cc combustion chamber you get 8.92 compression.
