PS swap, column angle?
I've mounted the new steering gear box to mock up to fit the column and have the PS column bracket which from what I've read and can tell from looking at it is needed to lift the end of the column tube to line up correctly. What I'm running into is at the dash mount end, where lifting the floor end of the column to clamp to the PS column bracket loads significant tension at the under dash mount.
I can do whatever is needed but just trying to understand if there was a difference between PS and non PS column mounts or pedal hangers, or perhaps the factory used angle shims. Also really want the column shaft concentric and parallel to the gear box input so as not to work the rag joint excessively.
Anyone have some info on this before I start doing surgery I'd sure appreciate it!
I believe that some people cut their column and shaft to work with the Saginaw box. If you look around you might be able to locate the correct column.
After you gut out your column or find the correct one you can get a blank shift socket from one of the Mustang aftermarket suppliers which makes it look complete.
it's workable, but there's clearly a mount height difference between the PS lower bracket and manual lower column brackets and I'm not aware if Ford did something to compensate for this difference on the dash end or if it was just a factory 'force fit'.
I'm actively mocking the pieces so as to ensure the column is aligned stearn to stem with the input of the box. I don't want to run a universal joint and feel proper alignment is key to a long service life of a rag joint.
