Difference between CA Cat vs. 46 State Cat?

I have a 2010 F250 with the 6.8L V-10. Does anyone know if I can replace the CA Catalytic converters with a Non-CA? Would I have to get the ECU reflashed? Is there any difference in performance? Thanks!

I just seen there is an Exhaust Forum on this site, so I posted this over there too. The Non-CA cat's are a lot easier and cheaper to find on eBay. Just in case they get stolen. I live in TX so Non-CA is not a problem for me.

If you dont need the converter to pass inspection just go without. Ive removed the main converter on both my V10 trucks and the computer doesnt miss it at all. Fuel trims are still reading same parameters as if the converter was still there. Passes emissions no problem as well.

OK well that's nice to know, so I could just go with a straight pipe to replace the cats? I don't have emissions inspection where I am at. I was just worried about having a CEL burning all the time. Thanks!

did it with my 5.4 and both 6.8s. Never did the CEL illuminate. I kept the pre cats and just removed the main cat. Do you have a downstream 02 sensor behind the main cat?

I don't know about the O2 sensor I will have to look tomorrow. I just bought the truck and it is my first truck, not sure what you mean by pre-cats and main cat. I thought there was just the two cats, just past the manifolds joining into one pipe then going to the muffler.

The two small converters you are referring to are the pre-cats. If you dont have a large single converter after the exhaust turns into a single pipe then someone already removed it or the cali trucks are set up different. My trucks all had three converters total.

Ok, looks like there is only the 2 pre-cats, and the muffler plus a small resonator at/near the tailpipe exit. There are 2 sensors just past the exhaust manifolds plus 2 more in the pre-cats for a total of 4. No other sensors. I guess CA trucks may be set-up a little different? I can't imagine the previous owner changing it. For one it all looks stock, and two I bought it from the original owner in CA, who bought it new in CA, it has the CA emissions sticker under the hood, and he was going to get it smogged after the sale, (required by CA anytime you sell a vehicle) but I told him to not bother with it , as I was taking it back to TX. Thanks for your help.
