I got a 15% tint on my front windows and windshield to match up to the rears as much as possible. Just a tad darker than the factory tint. But the 20% seemed a tad lighter. It is very hard to tell the 15% from the factory tint though. Eventhough 20% is whats legal in my state haven't been hassled! But get the 5% for the 5" strip on the front windshield. 15% isn't dark enough.
driver and passenger front window tint is an infraction (new laws that are making there way thru legislation are attempting to make this type of tint a misdemeanor. i like my tint and can deal with an infraction... but any harsher law than that and i will lose the tint.
i just called my tint guy and he tells me that superduties have a tint that runs between 35 and 40 percent (depending on brand of tint).
A word on tint guys...
My younger brother has been tinting windows since the late 80's. The only tint he uses is LLUMAR, because it comes with a lifetime guarantee against fading, bubbling, cracking and so on. If you are going to get your windows tinted I would ask the shop if they can use the LLUMAR. I've had it on all my cars for years, and it's usually the first thing I do when I get a new vehicle.
I'm not trying to sell this stuff, just offering up my $0.02 on this subject.
Also, as someone hinted at earlier the factory privacy glass is 35%.
Here in south Texas the heat is brutal!! I'm a cop and I still have illegal tint on my truck. I've got limo on top of my dark privacy on the rear and limo on front two windows. Also have a limo 7" strip(brow) on front window. I love it. Getting it inspected is a whole other problem....but it's who ya know!!! No probs with cops here or anywhere else in the south. Now on the other hand it is a truck and cops usually don't care....but on a sports car i.e. Camaro, T/A, cops love to use that as a reason to stop ya!
I hear ya about 'dem old black trucks!!!! I see you have one yourself!!! I was going to get a remote start back in the summer. I probably get one this winter or what they call winter around here. I call it late fall or early spring. We just get cool fronts around here.
Is that any tinting on the windshield or total tinting. I thought a band at the top was OK.
according to the chp website faq:
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
according to some other stuff i found......
front side: no more than 70%
windshield: 4" strip across top, no more than 70%
conflicting information.... and i'd stick with the chp faq if you want to be kosher
I have gotten quotes of $200 here in michigan for the rear window and 4 side windows for the 2004 f-250 crew.
Not sure what they would charge for the front.
I had the windows of my truck tinted shortly after I got it to whatever the legal limit is in Oregon. I could only put about a 7 inch strip on the top of the windshield. I did it to help the a/c in the summer. I have not been happy with the performance of my a/c since I got the truck, It did help a little. If I could have tinted the windshield overall, I think it would have helped the a/c much more.
