illegal window tint

I just had my 1994 f150 windows tinted, and the next day I see in the paper that the police are going to focus on nabbing anyone with window tint on the side windows, how stricked are the police in your area on this window tint? here they said you could get a 109.00 fine, then they tell you to take it to a inspection facility, to have it inpected at your cost of course, then you have to report back to the police station with your window tint report, which will prove illegal of course. and if you don't report back, the next time your nabbed they will issue a 539.00 fine and inpound the vehicle, harsh!!!, I guess my window tint has to come off

I'll do it as soon as they stop doing it. If the law came into effect after you can prove you had the work done, you *might* be grandfathered.

I think the law has been ineffect for quite awhile on the tint thing, they just decided to crack down on it,One thing you have to understand here in can-a-da is the cops think its more important to fine you for window tint, or not wearing your seat belt than they do fighting actual crime, they come up with all theses crafty ways of ambushing you for no seat belt, or hey theirs a guy with window tint-- get-- him, as if they don't have better thing to do, its just a money grab, the way I see it

they don't really enforce window tint laws here in the south because here tinted windows are almost a necessity since it can get so hot. Even many of the police cars here would have illegal tint on their windows if they ever enforced it here. They might pull someone over if their windows are completely black, but other than that they don't.

just got my windows tinted on driver and passenger front, on my super duty crew cab, the shop that did it had me sign a waver that i'm aware that it's illegal, and that it will fail inspection.

truck has a good sticker until 5/08, i'll trade it in b4 that, and i should have enough PBA cards to get me out of a ticket.
also i see plenty of vehicles with this done

the window tint laws are in effect to give police another reason to pull someone over and check them out, ie. (i hate to say it but i have many friends that are cops) low riders, droped suv's with big wide tires on them and loud music pumping from them, basically any auto that a gang member, or drug dealer might drive. there have been tint laws on the books here in colorado for 20 years, i have had illegal tint on everyone of my autos...and i have never had a problem. even when i have gotten tickets for other offences, i have never received a ticket for my tint
oh and the BEST advise i can give you about being pulled over...be very very polite to the officer, most people have know idea how far that goes

Its a sure thing for windows tinted down here......cops, ambulances, firetrucks sometimes. My trucks tinted.
Although I did run into a tint inspection up north. The cop had a meter in his car that measured the amount of light that passed thru you tint. If it was illegal, he gave you the ticket right there. No tint on windshields, no less then 50% in front side windows, and you could have 10% in back.....meaning nearly no light getting thru the tint.

I wish you could have 50% on the side glass, here they say no film of any kind. the guy that did the tint, says he has film now that blocks UV raze but is pretty much clear, and they won't allow it, they say the side glass doesn't shatter into little pieces like its suppose to, my buddy and me got side swiped one time and the door mirror hit the side window and it shattered into a million pieces, and it had film on it, they also sayed with tint you can't make eye contact with other drivers or pedestrian, well what if they were wearing sunglasses?

I know a few people that have gotten stopped here for tint but they were only warned, but the cops here in Canada are more in it for the money either way. Anyone evere seen a cop with a radar gun hiding behind a cement pillar while the car is outta site around the corner with his partner in it? They have you for just about anything you can name and you didn't even know they were there.

I think the big issue is that at night it is a little harder to see. Its not all of Canada that has the tint laws, some places like Manitoba you can have smoked or medium. If you just put a light tint on you won't get any hassle, but if you tint it to the point where a person can't see who's in it then they will get you.

I personally like the tint on the windows. Not only for the looks but it does provide a function. The cops just have to fill their quota up and thats why they go after people for the dumbest things. Next time I am going to just paint the window black. Do you think they would classify that as a film?

Ok, I have to take the discenting side here...

If I were a policemen, I wouldn't want to walk up to that car with all the windows blacked out wondering if this is the one that keeps me from getting home to my kids at night !

I'm in Dallas, I have to have tint all around the Ex - even 5 inches across the top of the windshield (legal here!) I've gotten my tickets for speeding, but since I roll down the windows and open the vent wings before they approach, I wonder if that puts them at ease and the last few tickets I've gotten have always been just below the 20 mph cutoff for serious fines when I KNOW I was going WAY over that !

So, yes, some of gov't is out to get us, but I would NOT want that policemens job !

And even though the tint laws are to make sure YOU can see as well, I understand the need to allow a policemen to see in....

I happened to be behind some self installed tints the last few weeks....
WHAT WERE they thinking not using a squegie to smooth out that mess ?!?!!?

And then the one with the silver relective tint that blinded me from the sun's reflection :-(

Here's an idea, go get a preemptive inspection and if it's legal keep the printout in the car. Then if you get pulled over for tint, show the officer the report.

I've been in cars with poorly applied tint (not mine) and with all the bubbles under the film, you couldn't see out the window at all. Pretty unsafe.

yes it does put them at ease, if you have tinted windows and get pulled over, roll down all the windows on the drivers side and if it is at night turn on your inside lights.

The big thing I have found is to not tint your rear window...that way cops can see into your car while they walk up. I have tinted my cars down to 20% in the front and 5% in the back windows, but havnt tinted the rear window...never got a ticket with that.

Bought the car I have now that already had the back window tinted...and I got a ticket 2 months later. Pulled it off just the back window, nothing since.

Good point.... and actually I do that :-)
but typically there is a 1000 watt spot coming thru the back window anyway !
