22 F250 Tremor 7.3.

5000 miles and front tremor shocks are toast! I just replaced the front with 5100 Bilstein’s. Rears are next!

I started a thread on front clunking noise. I narrowed it down to the tremor shocks, IMO they suck and ford cut costs with these shocks!

I have a Tremor and I wouldn’t recommend buying Tremor shocks for a non Tremor. If I keep my truck long enough I will be putting better shocks on it.

I got the Tremor package to get the front limited slip and the bigger duratrack tires.I am really happy with the Goodyear duratrack tires . I am happy with the Tremor and would buy it again. But, I don’t think it’s for those that intend to mod their truck. The only mod I have on my truck is a bed cover. When the tires need to be replaced it will be with the same tires in came with.

I read all the time on here the stock shocks are toast after xxxx miles. How do you know? Compressing them and watching them rebound on their own does NOT sound correct.

For what it’s worth:

’22 250 Tremor 7.3 CCSB

4,800 miles

Came from 250 6.7 CCSB king ranch w/ FX4

I love it. Rides really well (better than my previous truck). The lockers and lift from factory are perfect for what I need. Engine is surprisingly better than I thought coming from diesel.

Absolutely loved both trucks and in a perfect world I’d have both (previous truck was all stock, never had a single issue, towed amazing and was just a great truck. Things changed for me a little and I didn’t need the diesel anymore, but would buy one again should I need one without concern).

My shocks have been great on the Tremor. I can’t definitively say it’s them, but the overall package is one I’d buy again as I love how it rides and handles on rocky/steep roads on parts of our ranch. I agree with the above comment on this package being good for those who don’t mod their trucks right away. I don’t feel the need to change anything at all. But adding Tremor shocks to a non-Tremor…meh…if I was changing shocks on an FX4 I’d get Bilstein or Fox unless the Tremor take-offs were free.

I haven’t spent hours reading through and researching shock threads, but the vast majority seem to report that the OEMs (whether stock, “FX4” or “Tremor”) fail pretty quickly. Some say they can visually see them leaking, some do the “rebound” test and others just report that the new shocks “feel better.” I personally have no idea how to test a shock (although I’d say if they are leaking it would be obvious they’re shot) but I know I wouldn’t spend money on any of the stock shocks. If they are under warranty I may let the dealer replace them but would also realize that they still aren’t likely long term replacements and would be looking to just buy better replacements myself. For me, I would most likely go with the Bilstein 5100’s just because they seem to be the ones the most folks buy and they’re are lots of good reports on them. Fox would be the other option, but at a higher cost. Regardless, I still wouldn’t even consider spending money on the OEM shocks.

Exactly. If you don’t plan on changing anything then the tremor option makes sense for those guys. I myself always like to eventually change stuff and personalize it just a little over stock.

But I can think of a much better and more durable front limited slip (over the tremor clutch-style) and better tires than duratrac. For a few thousand you could make any super duty more off-road capable than a tremor IMO.

If interested. I found this Tremor deep dive autoblog article described the Tremor suspension well:

i just swapped my rear Tremor shocks for Bilstein 5100’s with under 1k miles. The problem was the clunking at low speed which I definitely proved was coming from the rear shocks, mostly the right and partially from the left. Clunk gone…………for now. If the fronts start the same clunk they’re gone too. There seems to be slop or play internally with the piston and shaft maybe, so each change in direction (commpression/release) you get the clunk. To annoying for me to leave them alone.

Rob,
exactly the same except for the clunking started in the front for me. It’s definitely annoying for an 80K plus new truck. Glad you got your clunk figured out as well!

That article was a bit dramatic lol.

I am team super duty. It does more all around as a true HD truck and I’m not trying to climb up large rocks or go severe off roading. Hence why super duty is what I bought.

But the fact they tried to imply any current super duty was going to scale up to a power wagon off-road was good for a laugh.

True, not the first time I have read it, but also found it a bit sensationalized. It does touch on some specifics of the shocks. Some of the info is actually good, I especially like the fact that they pointed out, it is not a 2" lift, but rather that it gets most of it's height from the larger tires. So many other writers had people believing that the Tremor has a 2" suspension lift. Where that article really goes wrong is when talking gas engine Tremors. I believe the suspension and axle info in that section is false.

This is why I never invest in rip off expensive off-road packages in any of my vehicles like Jeep Rubicon, Tremor, etc. because the factory stuff almost always sucks and for the price you save on the package you can get a better lift and tire setup. It’s a shame people have SHOCKS already blowing on these tremors with so little mileage.

Not sure what is happening with everyone’s shocks. I have a 2020 Tremor with 24k on it. No issues with mine. In fact this is the first vehicle I have ever owned that has not been in the shop 1 time for an issue. Truck is a dream. Quiet and smooth.
