Just to update this thread for posterity: The OE Block heater was a 110v unit. A transformer worked to power it (1500w 220->110v).

I think we stated (post #9) that a few times above (ie the OEM one is 110V), but thanks for the update.

Indeed, just take in consideration that it should not be that way in a country with a 220v power grid, that's why I wanted to confirm that for future reference if someone else finds itself in the same situation. Thank you everybody for the info and recommendations!

We probably could have not had the post count if you would have stated in the original post where you were and the standard voltage there.

Maybe it's x4. Check ohms law.
You have that backwards. Besides amps x volts = watts. If it consumes 900 watts at 120V, its around 450 watts at 220V.

Same as taking a 2000watt 240 volt spa heater and running it at 110 volts.
The one thing that will take them out quickly is what is referred to as dry firing the heater.
On water to cool it down. They tend to go POP very quickly. Last time I was working on
a heater and the flow detection circuit failed, and it went BANG/SIZZLE.
Pulled the control board and shipped it in for repair.

Resistance is the constant in that electrical exercise, not watts. When voltage increases in a constant resistance circuit, then amps increase, then watts really increase (until the smoke is let out).
