Reverse lights stopped working

All of a sudden I noticed that both of my reverse lights stopped working. I pulled apart one light, and saw it was pretty caked in what looked like dried grease (tan in color). The bulb element looked good using a meter and I put it back in but no dice. Under the truck I noticed an electrical component/switch mounted to the transmission selector rod assembly. I'm assuming this is the neutral safety switch. Would this also control when the reverse lights come on?

You did check the fuse? You can also get a testlight and check for voltage at the switch.

Be sure the bulbs are good and the sockets are clean. Ford did use anti corrosive grease and it's conductive. But if too dirty, dry and caked might need to be cleaned up.
