Clunking/jerks while in 4x4
Once I changed those I couldn't get the spindle , actuator and hub gears to "mesh" together....was losing my mind. Turns out the teeth on hub gear worn out just enough to prevent everything from "meshing" together. Installed new hub assemblies and all is well.
tks again to all who helped.
Drove into work yesterday in 4x4 all hwy without issues. When I then slowed down to make a right turn and proceeded on mine road with a slight incline it started to clunk/jerk, ( like pretty hard and loud too)if I let off the gas it stopped and as soon I would hit the gas again it would clunk/jerk again. I switched back to 2x4 and all is good.
My first thought is transfer case? But I dunno. Any help would be greatly appreciated. tks again
Mike
While tightening the lug nuts, I spun the wheel some and saw that the cv axle binds a little bit and forces the control arm upwards. The. It releases and the control arm slams back down and impacts the suspension spring.
There is an impact scar from the arm hitting the spring.
Its a brand new Dorman CV axle from O'Reilly.
Brsnd new actuators and cv azkes both sides.
Both wheels function properly in 4wd.. but that cv axle binding under load and thrn releasing the upward pressure on the control arm makes the clunking sound...
I would suggest inspecting your springs and looking for an impact scar newr your control arm....
Not sure how you could remedy this. But, that seems to be the culprit
