I thought this might be a good place to ask this question although it may be a bit inappropriate since it's about a Jeep.
My co-worker has an early 90's Wrangler and is having an issue with the 4 wheel drive. It goes into 4high fine and works ok until you start to get on the gas and add torque then it disengages and the gears grind alittle until you let up then it hooks back up.
The lever stays put in 4high the whole time. 4low works fine no issues. Anybody seen this before. He's had this Jeep about 6 Years and this just started to happen. This is not a big time offroad 4x4 but a street 4x4 not too much abuse.
Might be one of the front hubs, partially engaging, Otherwise it might be the transfer case. One way to tell it to have someone outside, lookdown while someone gives it gas, and see if the front u-joints spin or not. Also could be the vaccum pump, if it has any automatic stuff on it.
