Side View Mirror Cameras

As far as I can tell the side view cameras can only be used when you set-up a trailer with the back up assist option. I have that option.

When I press the trailer camera button when backing up the cameras in the mirrors activate but I get a lot of chiming and asking me to set up a trailer.

Can’t one just use those nifty sideview cameras without having a trailer?

When you put your truck in reverse without a trailer and without pressing any buttons, doesn’t the birds eye view with all 4 cams also pop up next to the backup cam?

The birds eye view is activated, but I have to press the hamburger (3 stacked lines) to see the other camera choices. I do not have a tailgate installed when I carry the truck camper so that camera is not available.

The birds eye view is activated, but it doesn’t display anything?

I wonder if the lack of tailgate camera is causing an issue. Did you ever have the tailgate on long enough to test or use the cameras before?

I can’t remember if I tested it prior, the truck comes with all the plugs to terminate those tailgate connections on the harness, but the loss of that camera might have something to do with it. Like I mentioned I do see the camera view but I get the alarms going off.

Ok, well the side view cameras should come up when you either put your truck in reverse, or tap the camera hard button above and to the right of the screen. No trailers need to be setup, no 3-stacked-line setting option has to be pressed and no alarms should sound.

So something is going on. I’m guessing it has to do with that tailgate camera not being active. You would think all the other cameras would work fine with just a black or blank rear view but I’m not sure.

I installed a Naviks module behind the screen in order to gain access to cameras while underway, and to provide the DW with a view through the side mirror camera corresponding to the turn signal engaged at the time. I like seeing where the curb is in the direction of turn. Works great; no FORSCAN setting needed.

The side view cameras are one view I never use, but if I remember correctly it doesn't require any trailer connected, I have checked them out without any trailer, but does require the truck to be in reverse in order to be selected.
