Hi y’all, I’ve got a 1993 f250 with the 7.3 idi diesel and an E40D trans. The trans has really been the Achilles heel of the truck ever since we bought it. The truck came with a bad front seal so we replaced that, the new seal failed before we even got home. So a new front seal went in to fix that.
then it would shift into drive but no movement so we had it towed and a full rebuild to get her goin again. We also replaced the tranny control module. Then not 2 days later did we have more shifting issues. Truck went back and the new trans was toast after less than 500 miles. So another rebuild under warranty brings us to now. Today I’ve had the truck back for 6 days and it flashed the OD light at me and shifted hard once. What could be causing these issues? I’m scared of burning up another trans Sorry for the long winded response but this is beyond frustrating. Thanks
What's causing those issues? Something that isn't right is causing them. If you need something more specific than that, read the codes. When the OD light flashed it was telling you that codes have been stored in the computer's memory. You need those codes to figure this out.
How do I check for a plug? The truck shifted very chaotic today, jumping gears choosing to high a gear and then almost stalling. Flashing the OD light at times. Could this be the trans computer telling it wrong? These issues only seem to happen once the trans is warm
Alright I got back 3, keep in mind that I could have performed this incorrectly. An 11 which it says means the system is ok, a 10 as a separation code, and a 23 which is either throttle position sensor signal out of range or a fuel injector pump level sensor input is outbid self test range. Neither of these seem to be correlated with my trans issue but if y’all know then please tell. Thanks
Ok, so I replaced the throttle position sensor and that code has disappeared, now I have a code 29 which is insufficient input from vehicle speed sensor, or insufficient input from programmable speedometer odometer module. I can replace the speed sensor in the rear diff but how do I address the other module if that’s what’s broken? Thanks
