2001 F-250 4wd. Squealing noise from front driver side wheel at 40-55 MPH. I haven't been into it yet but will this weekend. I have a couple questions. Is it "usual" to have that noise when a hub is crappin' the bed? If so, I would like to replace them with Warn manual hubs. Is that a good idea? If a bad hub doesn't make that kind of noise, where else should I be looking? Getting frustrated with this truck, but really like it. BTW, about 220,000 miles on it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank y'all for the responses. I think I found the source of noise on my way home from work yesterday. My front drive shaft crapped the u joint near the transfer case. I'm not certain thats what was causing the noise, but it for sure is a problem. I am getting that repaired, then will check all the other things. I will post an update when I get the truck back. I didn't really have time to mess with it due to the impending ice storm North Texas is getting right now.
Verify the caliper pins are free and well lubricated. If one or both per side are bad the pads will drag.
I pull all 4 calipers every 6-12 months to check and re-gease.
