Is the 3/4 ton front axle same as the 1/2 ton? I would like to get rid of the 8 lug hubs and replace with the truck 5 lug set up.

According to the parts book/s the F100 and the F250 use the same King Pin sets on the axle/spindle connection. That would lead me to believe the spindles could be swapped so that you could do to your F250 axle that you want to do. Maybe someone with hands on experience with this could weigh in.

If you do go this route be aware that the hard core hot rodder and rat rod crowd would love to have your F250 backing plates...they are the correct fit for installing finned Buick drums on a Model A axle.

@CharlieLed If you have the F250 backing plates and the F100 5 stud/lug hubs can the Buick aluminum finned brake drums be installed ?

My understanding is that the backing plates from the F250 are the same diameter as the Buick finned aluminum drums. I am sure that there are some other details but this is the extent of my knowledge. I bought parts from a guy who bought a whole F250 just to get the backing plates and was parting out the rest of the truck since he had what he wanted in the brakes.

Thanks for the king pin info, right now I am just trying to covert to 5 lugs. I have not even thought about the brakes. I did not know people were still using the old Buick finned aluminum drums on these trucks. Thank you sdpco

Sorry if I misled you on this topic...finned Buick drums are only "a thing" on fenderless vehicles as built by the "hard core hot rodder and rat rod crowd". If you can't see the drums then it's not worth the effort to run them "on these trucks". I hope this helps to clarify...

The front axle and spindles are the same for 53-56 F100 and F250. You can take the 8 lug hubs off and replace with 5 lug, using the half ton brakes with it. Alternatively, any disc brake kit for a 53-56 F100 will fit just the same on the F250 spindles, if you want to do that upgrade.

Thank you for the information. I was hoping they might be the same, but I did not have a F-100 truck here for comparison. I plan on using a early 70's F-100 9" rear axle assembly in order to get rid of all the 8-lug stuff and use the more common 5 lug wheels. I really do not need the heavy F-250 axles for my use.
