Right, I understand that. But which direction would my mark migrate when accelerating? Clockwise or countercw?

Your indicator will stay stationary, & the balancer scale will move anti-clockwise as revs increase.......

e.g. 10deg @ 800rpm.......25deg @ 2000......30deg @ 3000 etc (with the vacuum advance disconnected)

These figures are just an example - but higher rpm will give you a higher BTDC figure, until the mechanical advance reaches its limit.
