I attempted to remove my Tailgate F150 emblem to acetone it last night. The removal was easy, the acetone....well lets say Ford is using some serious paint on them now, took almost 1.5 hrs to remove the black part but it's back on now and looks good. I will be removing the BLUE pieces by the weekend from the FORD emblem.
I heated the emblem with a blow dryer and that was the easy part. I had to soak the emblem in acetone for 40mins and use a toothbrush (kid will never be the same again LOL jk) to actually get the black paint off.
Did you get to the ovals yet? I want to remove mine and color them to match the truck (bright red FX4 SCREW) so I'm thinking either black or red. Black might be a nice touch because of the other black highlights all over the truck. When you do remove the ovals let me know how it goes. Thanks
If you are talking about the front and back FORD blue emblems, yes the BLUE pieces will be removed this weekend and I will leave them chrome. Painting them is an option I did not think about....Hmmmm ideas are surfacing LOL!
Hehehe I knew that'd spark interest in you. I think it would look amazing to color match or use the ovals as a contrasting color (black in my situation). Man perfecting the toy after getting it is almost as much fun as delivery day...did i just say "almost as fun" hell it's more fun. Let me know how it goes this weekend and post some pics when you get them reattached. I need to hear how it goes and I'd love to see the finished product. I'll follow right behind you as soon as I'm confident I won't screw anything up.
In an earlier post, you said that you had removed the "self-adhesive" ford emblems from your truck using a hair dryer?!?!
I have never done this and would be much obliged if you could give me a step-by-step explanation of EXACTLY how to remove the "F-150" emblem on the driver's side of the tailgate on my new '04 F-150.
I plan on doing it this week, so a quick reply from you would be very much appreciated.
Just heat it up with the hair dryer on high for about 4-5 min. Then just pull it off. The heat is so most of the adhesive comes off with the emblem. Also I find that using fishing line to get behind the emblem works best to get it off with minimal residue.
Heat it back up for a few seconds and see if you can roll it off with your fingers and if not then goof-off ,goo-gone, or rubbing alcohol all work fairly well. If you do end up using one of those products just follow it up with a quick wax to reprotect the paint.
Just to let you know there are 3 holes in the Tailgate underneath the F150 emblem. My plan was to just shave it off and leave it off but due to the holes I acetoned it and put it back on.
There are 2 posts on the back of the F150 emblem that match 2 of the holes and then there is a hole about 3/4 inch around and I have no earthly clue what that hole was/is for but VERY noticeable so I put it back on.
