I posted in the 335 Engine forum, but thought I might get a few more views here, since quite a few of you guys have these in your trucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I didn't see mentioned, but you replaced the lifters, AND pre-soaked them AND burped them prior to install?
When you pull the valve covers if nothing immediately signals the issue, then it's time to verify the preload.
This is a general orientation description, you can find many articles with more step by step.
Start with number 1 at TDC, and you should be able to spin both the intake and exhaust pushrod by hand (if there's a ton of pre-load, you might have to loosen the hold down bolt 1/4 turn). but there shouldn't be any free-play as you try by hand to push the rod end of the rocker up and down. then rotate the crank 90deg clockwise and go to the next cylinder in firing order, etc.
Unless you somehow have an adjustment capability in the (stock?) 335 rockers, you will probably need to order custom length pushrods and/or switch out your rockers to adjust the preload.
Machine shop rebuilt the motor, so i am assuming any procedures needing to be done on the lifters prior to assembly were completed. Hopefully will get the chance to pull valve covers this weekend to check pushrods, rockers, & springs.
