A couple months ago I took my ‘19 SD to the dealer for a warranty issue. The service Advisor asked if I wanted to install the new engine software package. I asked if there was anything noteworthy in it and he said no, just emissions stuff. I said OK.
Now my truck idles at 1100rpm, gets slightly worse MPG and uses DEF like it’s going out of style.
I suspect I know the answer to this question, but is it possible to ask them to go back to the older software?
It idles normally for 5 min or so, and then it slowly ramps up to about 1100. Step on the gas or brake and it drops back down, then about a minute later, it starts climbing again.
I read about similar issues early after the update was released, and that Ford went back and updated the update. I don’t know where it all stands now.
It should only idle high after sitting idling for several minutes. Does your's go straight to 1100 rpm always? And no, they cannot go back to a previous program. You might be stuck waiting for a new update down the road. Or, if you suspect this current one was done wrong, maybe they can redo the one you have now.
Edit- Sorry, I was writing as you were posting the above post. It sounds like your truck is working as intended.
The only reprogram that was updated, or redone was the first release of the 20E07. It was stopped in april or may until a new one was later released. They came out with the 21E14 for those who had the 20E07 done prior to July 2021. My truck currently is running the first 20E07 on it, the one that had a stop order. I don't let it idle long enough to know if it would kick up to 1100 rpm...or maybe that is why they stopped it, because it didn't include the high idle. I haven't been back in to get the 21E14.

They can idle up after sitting for a while, depending on conditions and state of the DPF.

There have been some reporting getting the idle up(1100rpm) anytime the truck idles for 5 or so minutes without touching the gas or brake pedal, regardless of ambient temps, engine temp, or DPF load. It seems to have been enabled by a recent emissions FSA that applies to 17-19 diesels.
Do the 20-22 diesels idle up anytime its left idling for several minutes?

It idles up every time, regardless of engine or ambient temp. Sometimes it happens faster than other times, but it’s always 3-5 minutes.

Mine only does if it is really cold out or if it starts a regen while idling.
