OCR and IDS
Friday, I went to my dealer for my 40k service and asked them to activate/install OCR on my truck. Without hesitation the service adviser stated that they could do it with IDS and that it would cost $180. I agreed and they did the install.
Today my DPF reached 100% FULL. I drove for at least 10 mins and then I stopped and placed the truck in park and applied the parking brake and was immediately prompted/asked if I wished to initiate filter cleaning Y/N. I clicked no as i was running a bit behind plus i wanted to see what would happen next.
I drove about a mile and the truck began to regen on its own just like normal.
The next time i reach 100% FULL on the DPF screen i will try to do a manual regen and report back
Anyways, if you are using the truck as a normal driver, there’s no need to turn off auto regen. OCR is mainly used by work trucks that idle a lot and do not have the option to meet parameters to do a proper regen. When I am out at work for a month, I go on roads that you cannot go faster than about 50km/hr and I idle a lot. There is no option to go for a drive to do a proper regen. This is a great situation to use the OCR feature. If you are normal usage, just let the truck do it’s thing automatically and if you ever do get the DPF 100% and won’t be able to meet proper driving parameters for a few days, turn off the auto and do an OCR.
FYI. OCR in winter doesn’t work well (-15C and lower). The DPF screen always reads 0% which won’t let you enable the OCR feature. Stupid. I had my truck do a stationary automatic regen in my driveway while warming up one morning. Smoked out the entire bay with white smoke. Even my neighbours came out to see what the hell was going on. Lol. That situation basically led me to believe that the truck knew it was in a desperate need for a regen so it kicked in even when it didn’t meet parameters. The engine was not up to any where near normal operating temps. It was about -30C out and it started regen after about 5min if idle time. Not warm at all.
great results!.

i think i read that you enabled your OCR with Forscan? I had the dealer do mine via IDS...
So yesterday I get the icon in the data screen and my idle jumped to 1500 rpm...WTH is going on. Then I started pushing some buttons and then it tells me the exhaust screen needs to be cleaned it is at 40%...as I sit there trying to sort out I think back to this thread I read and some others then I said Ah Ha I know what it is.
I reach down on the dash an push my engine speed lever to give me about 1600 RPM and in a few moments the reading is 38% and as I have some fieldwork to do with my Box Scrapper I put my John Deere in gear, engine RPM at 1750 and as I work I see the % continue to drop...
