I just got home from where my 55 F350 is in winter storage where a buddy and I put my starter back in. I just had my starter rebuilt . It cost 68 bucks. Why not get yours rebuilt?

I was thinking about rebuild but it is in very rough shape, especially considering when I tried stating the truck yesterday, I heard a large bang and saw smoke. I looked under the hood and the inside of the starter was flaming. time for a new one.

If your not concerned about keeping it original they sell mini starters that the Bendix engages the flywheel from the front instead of like the originals (from the back).

Check with your local parts house. Most I checked had the original styles available. I love my mini starter but I needed it for room.
