I can't wait to see how terrible the stock halogens are, lol.
Coming from a 2000 SD I bet they will be fine.
With the upfitter switches, maybe I'll have to add an off road light bar for tooling around the country side.

I think the halogens are fine, even on the back roads on dark nights I haven't had issues with being able to see. I will also say that I keep my fog lights turned on too, so they make a difference too, but at this point they are great. Don't get me wrong, I love the way the LED lights look and would be happy to have them, but in order for me to get there from my order would have been an additional $9000, so definitely not worth it. I am glad that I am seeing all the talk about the Morimoto's though... I didn't realize that there were so many "bad" reviews of them... they were on my long list of things I wanted, but they're not really there anymore... I think I will just stick with my halogens and put that money elsewhere!

EXACTLY why I don't have LEDs.

The problem with auxiliary lights is that they aren't street legal in a lot of places and they aren't designed to aim towards oncoming cars.

This means that the light beam pattern reflected and projected is now outside of the OEM engineered design. Illumination of the pavement ahead is only one part of the beam design. The aftermarket LEDs (linked to Amazon) emit light from 2 flat planes where the halogen bulb has both radial and frontal light emission pattern. The aftermarket plug and play LEDs may be a brighter light, but may not necessarily be a better light when paired to an OEM headlamp assembly. It would be like wearing someone else's eye glass prescription. The OEM LEDs of course are a different story because the LED lamp and housing are designed together as a system.
Using this explanation, no other EXACT Halogen replacement would be suitable either, as each manufacturer has slightly different tooling and such. Therefore, USE FORD OR DIE is your hypothesis. That's faulty. Likewise, the first road bump you drive over will also slightly misalign any bulb inserted to a slight degree. So would ambient temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. Regardless..... anything other than the exact engineers exact spec at the exact time of manufacture is pure rubbish.
Nah, I don't buy that one bit.

I would like to say that the XB LEDs did look excellent on my 2012 450, and the build quality was high, but the Z cut-off and they were not as bright as I was expecting. Definitely much brighter than my stock single halogen though. However, at the end of the day, $1450 (for my 2012's) and $1950 for a 2022, that is a hard pass for me. You never know, a set of factory LED's might just appear on eBay too!

The z is designed to allow you to keep the beam pattern higher and not put the lights into the eyes of oncoming drivers. It is lower on the left and steps up on the right to project further down the road.

I could believe this if OEM projectors were like this, but they aren't. They are cheap Chinese eBay quality lights with poor light output. Plus they have several voids in the beam pattern and a black line between low and high beams.

I either got lucky with the set of XB’s that I have or the hybrid has a very different design. I’ll pull against my shop tomorrow morning and get a pic of the high beam and low beam cutoff. I never have noticed a void in mine. Only change I have done with mine is Bambi mode in forscan but I can’t see the fog lights patching a gap between the lows and highs.

The hybrids are different than the regular XB's. Which seem nice other than the startup silliness they do. I wish that could be turned off.

That sucks to hear about the hybrids. I thought they were really good looking lights. As far as the start up sequence on my truck I’ve honestly never seen it, I’m always backed into my driveway and at my shop and I remote start the truck every time I get in year round. I wonder if it’s due to the XB’s having 4 projectors vs 2 on the hybrids.

Yes I'm sure having 4 is much better but even with 2 I feel they should be brighter with better beam quality. At least they took mine back and refunded me and included a prepaid return label however I did have to argue to get that.

It's been said that prices are coming down on factory LED units for sale by private parties too. Plenty of information on this forum about installation too, as I'm sure you're aware it's not a simple plug and play swap.

Seems to be a bunch of hating on the Z pattern, but if the lights are adjusted properly you should only see that when up close to the object viewing it on (garage door). The father away from that item the smaller the Z becomes. After I installed them yesterday it was light out so I really couldn’t test the pattern, so last night I did, which is a pain in the *** by the way (not Morimoto’s fault, just access). When 25’ away from the building the Z is definitely visible, but once on the road good to go.
