Exclamation 4 On The Floor Problems!!

I would greatly appreciate any insight someone may have on a 4 speed manual transmission clutch issue. I have a 59 F-100. My clutch was not engaging or disengaging. This lead me to replace the slave cylinder and the line that runs up to the primary. I have bled all the air out and still having issues. I cannot get the clutch to disengage in reverse and in all my forward gears the clutch changes where on the clutch the flywheel is engaging (top bottom or middle). I have reached the end of my knowledge and cannot think of what could be causing continued issues.

Any insight or information will be greatly appreciated. And Happy New Year!

Clutch problem

If the clutch pressure plate and disc have been replaced and this is when the problem started then it could be the fork rocker bracket has broken or the pressure plate is not parallel to the disc. Does the slave push the clutch fork? If not then the master or slave are leaking internally.

loosen all the pressure plate mounting bolts then remove 1 bolt at a time then put a flat washer under each ear of the clutch plate and tighten them up. Then see if the clutch will release.

Question Clutch problem

Is the transmission the same one that has always been in the truck?

Yes Kenny. It’s all original. The clutch started the feel as it fluid was leaking past the slave cylinder. This led me to replace it and the line. And I believe I’ve bless all air from the line but clutch still has same problem.

If you can rig a “come a long” to pull the fork instead of the slave will the clutch release?

Good idea! A new development is that the mechanic guy I trust told me it is my master cylinder. Hopefully that solves it. Thank you for all your help and advice.

Clutch problem

There is a place called White Post Restorations in Vermont that repairs the cast iron slaves and masters by boring out and installing a stainless steel sleeve and also rebuilds them. Needless to say not cheap but will be the last time you will have a problem with them.

If LMC doesn't work out, you can get one from NAPA online. 1959 Ford F100 1/2 Ton - Pickup Clutch Master Cylinder | NAPA Auto Parts (napaonline.com)
