I do recall the O2 sensor leads tend to be generic colors before they plug into the wiring connector. Two whites, a black and a gray could be a missing third O2 sensor? On your 1996 truck the third O2 sensor measures converter efficiency.

The two whites are for the O2 sensor heater. Black is O2 signal and gray is ground.
