TCC Problems

Hey everyone, Hope you can help. I have a 2002 f250, 5.4l.
The overdrive light flashes and no overdrive operation.
We replace the torq, convertor but still have the same sumtoms
and have codes p0740 and p0743 which will not clear.
Any sugestions. We have the pan off, but not sure which is the right
solenoid or how to test.
Thanks again
Robert

The torque converter clutch solenoid is the small black round solenoid bolted to the valvebody. There are 4 solenoids on the valvebody on a 4R70W. 2 of them are in a rectangular "pack" and are the shift solenoids, the pressure control solenoid (EPC) is held in place on the side of the valvebody next to the shift lever, and the last one is a small black solenoid held in place by a single bolt that is shared with the shift solenoid pack. That's the one you're looking for.

Thanks Johnny,

My tech tells me we have a A40D trans. that has five solenoids in a cluster.
Any help would be great.
Thanks again

So..what is your truck? An F150? An F250 light duty? Or an F250 Superduty?
A4OD's were never installed in any of these trucks. It'll be a 4R70W or a 4R100,or possibly an E4OD.

It is an F250 super duty, v8 triton. It belongs to a roofing Co, who works on their own
trucks unless it's something they don't want mess with. Then they bring it me. It may not even be original.

If it's a Superduty with a Triton,it's a 4R100.
It's also going to have the PWM controlled TCC,and the solenoids are in a "pack" that's replaced as a unit. You might be able to find individual replacement solenoids, but you'll be better off replacing the entire "pack". They're around $150 from most suppliers.
