Nice work!

That was pretty much what I was suggesting earlier with splicing in a new piece of hose except I wasn’t expecting you to need a new metal line.

Awesome you and your dad got to work on it together! Me and dad have a lot of wrenching memories. His health is not good anymore but today was pretty enough (remember, December in WV isn’t like in AL) that I was able to drive him around in his ‘66 F100.

Paint colors… I know you’re done but you really don’t want my opinion. Everything for me is always low key and blends in. Black is a favorite. lol. The race car has a black block with aluminum toppings. I’m wondering what you decided about the blue on the master cylinder? I do think it would look good matching your red pipes.

Can’t tell from the photo but be sure to address this potential rub point if you haven’t already.

Thanks! I replaced the metal line because, in the few rub points that it normally rubs it was worn quite a bit. I like working with my dad but sometimes he is hard to work with.

I thought the same thing about the hydro booster cylinder matching my red pipes. Probably going to go ahead and paint it red.

I have a little rubber elbow on the fitting on the power steering pump at the rub point you are mentioning. Good eye though!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I hope everyone is having a merry Christmas!
I had a quick question. How are you supposed to bleed the hydro boost after you reinstall it? I was just reading a couple forums, it said to Jack the front of the truck up and fill the power steering reservoir, with the truck off, turn the wheels lock to lock 50 times while every five times pumping the brakes three times. Is this really the only way to do it? That seems a bit excessive.

You bleed it just like your power steering, so if you bled your ps system you also bled the booster already. Basically just like you wrote is a good way

With the truck off though? The pump has to be spinning methinks so with the truck running.

I would do it with it running too, but after doing it while off at least a few times, real slow so it doesnt overflow the reservoir.

We'll see, the new booster isn't on yet. I didn't have time yesterday to get the new booster on too. Too much other stuff to do so I did what I could. I'm planning on putting the booster on tomorrow. I didn't really have to bleed the power steering but for a few minutes when I refilled it after changing my line out. I jacked the truck up filled it with fluid turn left and right a few times pump the brakes a few times, did that while refilling the fluid maybe five or six times and it was golden. I took the return line from the booster to the pump off and had it pumping into a bucket so I can see what color the fluid was while I did my fluid flush. Pretty much the same thing for the booster swap?

I’m thinking the return line you swapped out did not introduce as much air into the system like it will when doing the booster. It will take a bit of work to get the air out. At least it did when I swapped the line from the pump to booster.

I used this method. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-TSw2Qlzsx8

Thanks for the link, I will definitely use it. I also had the pump off too though, And the pump to booster line was also off on the pump side as well. Either way I will get it done and keep you all updated. I have been considering keeping my power steering pulley puller just so I can have it but I don't know that I will need it again. It was only $45 and the auto parts store said I can keep it if I decided to. I always want more tools

So, it just hit me while I was laying here watching a couple videos, the video that you linked is the same video I watched and used when flushing my system yesterday to put the clean fluid in. That being said do I really need to take that line off and bleed it into a bucket? It's brand new fluid and I flushed with three quarts of fluid. It's pretty red like it should be. So to bleed the booster shouldn't I just Jack the front of the truck up and sit there turning the wheel and pressing the brakes letting the return line return into the power steering reservoir instead of into a bucket? Only reason I say that is because it wouldn't be any different than sitting there adding fluid and pumping into a bucket, and the fluids already clean so I don't need to flush it, just need to get the booster bled and full, so if I leave the cap off of the power steering pump reservoir so I can keep an eye on the fluid I can essentially not even have to bleed anything into a bucket. Just hook everything back up and turn the wheel for a while and pump the brakes.
Just a thought, I don't see why I would need to run an extra line into a bucket since I already have clean fluid.
Let me know what you think on the matter.

No need to drain the fluid.
Start it and hit the brakes a few times to operate that side of the booster, do not steer at all. Turn off and let sit so you dont suck all the frothed air from ps reservoir, after it sits and froth goes down, then you can start and bleed by turning back and forth.
I believe that should work.

Or you can drain from the return off booster into a jug for just the initial brake pressing to avoid the big burst of froth going to ps reservoir and having to wait for it to calm down, that wouldnt waste much fluid.
