I heard that the 03-07 were the bad years for the 6.0. What about the 2009? I'm looking at a 2009 14ft box van with the 6.0. I plan to use it for my Plumbing business so it'll be loaded heavy but not maxed out.
There’s nothing wrong to 6.oL diesel. You just have to be willing to spend the time or the money to keep up on top of things.
after that any year will do it since you’re dealing with an E series it’s going to be a little tougher because there’s not that much space in the engine day.
have a look in the tech folder for a thread on how to buy a used truck with a 6 L diesel in it. It will show you what to look for and want to walk away from.
Adding on to Sean's post: the E series all along were run at a lower power level and frankly should be more reliable than the F series engines. I'm think '09 should have pretty much all the updates that many of us had to do - things like the Updated part that replaced the failure prone STC fitting off the High Pressure Oil Pump, the "Commonized Head" which should do well run at lower power levels, I'd expect that the trans pan and filter would be what the 6.4s got (but don't know for sure), I'm sure there's more....
I'd still check things like the Oil Cooler to Coolant temperature difference, check FICM voltages and if you buy it, change to an EC-1 rated coolant.
