Looking into another 6.0

Hey Guys quick question
The past two pick ups I've had have had the 6.0 and knock on wood I've had pretty good luck with them and with the help of the forum have saved a ton of money.

I do own a business and I run gas powered E series Vans, I'm now looking into maybe getting a van with the 6.0.

My question is how much more difficult is it to work on a 6.0 in a van (E-350) vs the pickup?

oh boy, I have a feeling the vans are a PITA to work on.
the one I'm looking at is a E350, and when its warmed up it won't re-start until it gets cold again. I had the same problem with my F350, on that the fix wasn't to bad. So this is why I'm wondering just how much of a PITA they are.

Put it this way, you won't enjoy having to pull valve covers on this, particularly the passenger side valve cover.

I think it all depends on two things.

A)If you are a glutton for punishment

B)What is your time worth?

That said, guys like mchan can answer both

Well on that note... and thank you for your replies... I may just pass on the diesel and stay with the gas engines in the vans

I own a 2004 E350 extended van and purchased it used.

Other than a severely dirty cooling system, it's been running great since last September.

Here is a list of what I have done since owning the van:

Blue spring upgrade.
Coolant filter.
2008 transmission pan.
FICM repair (PO ran the battery down and one battery connector was broke)
Oil change.
In the process of replacing brakes, rotors, and ball joints.

The EOT-ECT is about 8 degrees. The vans run hotter because the engine compartment is really cramped.

When I decide to replace the HPOP and everything inside that goes with this (stand pipes, dummy plugs, oil cooler, egr cooler, etc.) the labor is about $1000 extra if you do everything at once. The $1000 is the penalty for owning a van. LOL!

I paid that for my Crew Cab by a friend of mine. He also installed my exhaust, new radiator, serpentine belt, IPR, Oil temp sensor, fumoto valve and a couple other odds and ends. A thousand at a shop doesn't sound too bad.

1000 isn't bad at all. I've done all the work myself on the F350, Everytime I think van.. and replacing the HPOP, etc I'm thinking the engines gotta get pulled out.

Its a very clean van at $6000 with 190K, so it does give me room for the repair it needs... just hesitant though

I meant an extra $1000 because it's a van. Once you remove things it's not that hard to work on. Find a mechanic that works on ambulance diesels. Everything else is easier.
