ECT Showing High Temp
I have a 2006 F-250 with the 6.0L Powerstroke. I have about 160,000 miles on it today. Driving around town yesterday everything was functioning normally ECT and EOT temps were normal. I stopped and left the engine running for 2 minutes while I unloaded some cardboard at a recycling center. When I got back in the truck my message center said to check my engine temp. I looked at my gauge and it showed normal. As soon as I started to drive away the gauge shot up and pegged out high. I have an SCT X4 programmer that I plugged in and it showed an ECT temp of 254, but the EOT was about 180. I pulled over and checked everything out....coolant was full, no leaking that I could see, didn't hear anything boiling, and fan was running wide open. I drove it on for about 10 miles and parked it and all the same observations above remained. I left it parked for 24 hours, and cranked it again the next day. Immediately the temp gauge showed pegged out high and ECT temp on my programmer showed 240. Outside temp was in the mid 50s. It appears my gauges are showing that my engine is overheating, but it doesn't appear that it actually is. My thoughts are the ECT sensor or maybe the thermostat has gone bad. Has anyone else run across this scenario before? Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

All these PIDs should be about the same on a cold engine.

At 58* my ECT_V was 3.97 volts. It gets lower as the temp rises. Do you have a fault on yur ECT_F? Any DTC's? How many miles on thermostat. Here's a good DTC reader with those PIDs+. I agree, maybe sensor or thermostat, or both. 215 is the alarm level for ECT, so I would not drive it until you figure it out.

Eot typically follows ECT with the stock oil cooler so that’s a good indication if you’re actually overheating or not.
