Speaker installation

I'm hoping to get some suggestions on speaker installation. Let me give you some background. I had a 1995 single cab F-150. I had 2 10` inverted Kicker Freeair's professionally installed in it. They built a box for each speaker. They ported each box because the speaker's are freeairs'. If I'm wrong on this, let me know.

Now, I have a 2001 F-150 SuperCrew. I would like to put these speakers in my new truck. As is, the speakers will not fit in the truck in the current boxes they reside in. My main question is, since the speakers are freeair, do they need a box? I would like to put them under the back seat, if possible. Should I just scrap the whole idea and get all new equipment? Or is there a way to make these work? Any suggestions on what to do will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, they'll need a box. You can always build a box to go under the seat, or have a shop build one for you.

free air or infinite baffle speakersshouldn't need a box per se, but you have to completely isolate and seal the front from the back
for example they often mount them on a trunk baffle, and seal the trunk off from the passenger compartment, basically using the trunk as an enclosure
free airs usually have extra damping to controll cone excursion, so box volume isn't as critical
your shop should be able to look at the Thiel-Small parameters for your driver, and design a box to fit your speakers to your truck
