Line Out Convertor Placement

I am wondering where is the best place to put my line out convertor. Should I put it closest to the factory HU, or closes to the amp? If closer to the HU or if it doesn't matter, then where in a 2002 F-150 XLT Supercab, is the best place to put it so I can get to it with ease, rather than having to rip the dash apart?

Right behind the HU would probably be the best and then run a good quality pair of RCA's to the amp. Once it's in place and adjusted you shouldn't need to mess with it, so behind the HU is probably good. And you don't need to tear up the dash, the trim (along with the A/C vents) around the radio just pulls off and you got access to everything back there. There is a special tool to take out the original HU so you can have more space to work.

Most have gain controls so you want to set those correctly and evenly before reinstalling everything. I placed mine when I had it behind the glove box so if I ever had to readjust the gains I could pull the glove box down.

I put one in right beneath the HU, thinking that it would be readily accessible for adjustment simply by removing the small enviro control switches (fan; heat; vent etc.)panel located right below the face of the HU. But... it turned out that it took weeks of tweaking to get the converter gains and amp gains dialed in; and doing a bunch of finite adjustments without having full frontal unrestricted access to the converter was a real pain. I would reccomend placing it either behind the HU but with ample wire slack to pull it out and do live adjustments, or like the other suggestion: behind the glove box (it pulls out). make sure you have a well lit and direct view of the little screw slots so you can verify you are re-setting them equally, and have ample room to get at and turn those tiny little gain screws with a tiny little screwdriver held in your not so tiny hand and fingers, etc.
Have fun.
