Plug on Stock Speakers

I just bought some Infinity Kappa Perfects for my truck and i was just starting to install them but the stock speakers have a plug that plugs into the speakers and for my new speakers do i just cut that plug off and strip some of the wire and hook it to the speakers? and does it matter which of the 2 wires goes where on the speaker?. or do i have to run a new speaker wire from the deck?. i would really like to get this speakers installed soon.

also the speakers i bought are components and i was wondering if anybody has any ideas of where to cut a hole to put the tweeter?. some pictures of your setup if you have tweeters would be great. also i think its called a crossover...its the box where all the wires come out of to the tweeter and speaker...where is a good place to mount that. i was thinking of just leaving it in the door panel somewhere but i dunno if thats a good idea. any suggestions would be great here!

you can put the tweeters up top in the corner of the beam near each visor. Some tweeters come with a surface mount bracket. The crossover would be better if kept accessible, like under the seat or even mounted under the dash somewhere. I have also seen them mounted in the glove box. The "Plug" you are talking about is that the flat metal fitting used to slide onto the speaker terminals? If so your new speakers should have similar terminals. If not, you can cut them and either get a fitting that will fit your new speakers or go with bare wire, however most likely there is a fitting that will work.

Most stereo shops will sell an adapter that will plug into the factory plug and give you the spade terminals that will push on to your new speakers. This will also make sure you get the polarity right. You can cut the plug off instead, but it makes it difficult if you ever want to put the truck back to stock.

Getting the polarity wrong will cause the speaker to move in the wrong direction. This can cause damage to the speaker, and poor sound.

im just going to cut the plug off. how can i be sure i get the polarity right?

and im either going to mount the tweeters in the top of the A Pillar near the visor like suggested or somewhere in the door panel. and im still unsure of where to put the crossovers. it would be nice to have them accesable but i cant seem to find anywhere to put them...i might try up under the dash somewhere but i would have to run a lot of speaker wire into the doors then.

i'd mount them in the door panel or kick panels. mounting them up high on the a post will raise the soundstage too high. also, i'd recommend installing an amplifier for these speakers. the headunit is not going to provide enough power to allow these speakers to reach their full potential.

as for polarity, if you look at both plugs you should see common color wire (most cars are this way, not sure yet on the fords). this would be your - and the other color will be your +.

i decided to mount the tweeters in the door panels right beside the speakers...and i mounted the crossover in the pocket at the bottom of the door panel.

i am going to buy a amp for the speakers...just not right now. im going to buy a new deck first cause theres a old one in the truck right now.

i got the drivers side speaker installed today. im going to do the other one tomorrow then the back speakers when i find time. the only problem is something is rattling in the door panel and its really annoying. i havnt had time to find out what it is cause its too dark outside so i packed everything up for the night but im going to try and find out whats rattling tomorrow. im afraid that the speaker might be hitting the door panel somewhere and thats not good at all.

Just remember not to turn the volume up too loud. Underpowering a speaker will kill a speaker faster than overpowering it.
