LED lights not serviceable?

I was just reading a post on FB from someone (maybe they posted on here) whose front turn signal stopped working. Dealer told him it’s not serviceable and will cost 2400 bucks. He’s 6 months out of warranty.
That sounds crazy to me. I opted for LEDs on my build and now I'm
thinking I should’ve just stuck with halogens.

I wouldn't sweat that for a second. One person reporting an issue out of hundreds of thousands of trucks. Yep, sometimes things break and sometimes they are expensive to fix. The LED lights are night and day (pun intended?) better than the halogens and there are very low percentage of reported failures.
(Someone will chime in saying to make an insurance claim)

PremiumCare with bulb coverage would've been handy in that instance.

This is something to consider if you plan to keep the truck out of warranty. It's not just the LED headlights that are non serviceable and big $, the taillights as well. I have the LED's, it was a must have option for me, but I am seriously considering an extended warranty. I have one headlight at the moment with some dead lights in the DRL area.

Added "ESP" in case the OP isn't cognizant of the "PremiumCare" title, and yes, the LED coverage is an additional rider to the PremiumCare ESP. Added it to my 100K-mile/8-year ESP.

$2400 for 1 LED headlamp is robbery. I get the labor involved but good lord, change it yourself and save almost $1400 or more.
I would definitely get the extended warranty that would cover LED. Far too many electrical components to not get it

That's why I buy the premium warranty from Zeigler Ford. It's a no brainer.

That warranty saved my butt multiple times on my 2017 Lariat Dually.

I'll be buying it again once I receive my 2022.

My parking skills were underpar

I have a F250 6.7 Platium (2018) and was backing a camper trailer in a tight backyard (Tight for a F250 :-) ) and as the camper t-boned - I couldn't see it in the rear view - I heard a scrape and thought I had backed into the fence. What it was, is the camper has a stone guard on the front and the corner of the guard is the correct height for hitting the rear tail light, and on inspection confirmed the glass cracked in 3 places, but the Blis was ok. Drove the vehicle with patched up DS lense while I searched for a replacement. In Australia everything is $Ford dear plus, and the converter wanted $1650 plus tax for one tail light assembly, which I found to me to be a barrier to purchase, so I hunted around on the internet and found I would have to purchase 2 - R&L taillights as they weren't the exact OEM match (reverse glass was smaller - which I prefer anyway) from a company in Taiwan all up $aus 950 for two taillights with Blis! and when they came I decided to install them myself. Well I found that although they looked identical (L & R ) they definately aren't and was prepared to return them until I decided to switch them over and presto all fitted perfectly! Had them now for 2 years and not a problem. The converter company over here noticed they were different and when I told them the price they were spewing. I have advertised them but no one has expressed any interest ($AU950 for both) but sooener or later someone will do what I did and look for replacement. hopefully. Fitted the camper with power movers on both wheels and use it to park the trailer if it needs any manoevering as the F250 doesn't have the tightest turning circle - despite what the specifications say.

I bought a bumper to bumper ESP on my 05 F150, and made back my money's worth on it. I didn't buy an ESP for my 2016 F150 and luckily haven't needed it. Well, I have a TPS sensor that's out (just happened) but since I'm trading it in anyway I'll let the dealer take care of it. As for this 2022 I have on order, I'm not sure if I'll get an ESP. Probably not. It's all a gamble. Just one of these LED housings would pay for the cost of an ESP. Or, save the money and use it to fix the truck beyond warranty, if needed.

It’s the major reason I didn’t get

To hear everyone on this (and other SM platforms), you would think that a vehicle without LEDs can’t be driven safely at night.
What, are y’all going blind or something? I’m not disagreeing that their light does seem brighter (actually headlight brightness is regulated by the DOT). I mean, we have all been driving vehicles at night for decades, even after dark, without them (seeing your eye doctor annually is important, and us CDL licensed drivers have to have an eye exam every two years to keep our medical card). In fact, there is zero evidence that LED lights prevent accidents. If there was such evidence, I would change my opinion.

i fully understand the benefits of LED lighting in general , which is, lower energy consumption per lumen, and longer life expectancy. But the energy consumption savings on a vehicle will never (ever) pay for the option cost in fuel savings. I know that statement sounds ridiculous, but it’s actually true. And as far as longer life, same thing; you can buy a lot of halogen bulbs for $1200. In fact, I have never replaced a headlight bulb in a superduty and I’ve been driving them since 1999 (I realize how lucky I am), I also have NEVER hit anything at night (again, just lucky I guess).

I just ordered a 22 Lariat and had no desire at all for LED headlights, but may have gotten them if required to get other options desired (depending on cost/value to ME . As most know, you have to get a minimum of $3400 of other options to be blessed enough to also get to pay another $1200 to get LED lights. I would have liked to get adaptive Cruise (and gladly pay the $800 for it, but it wasn’t worth being forced to pay so much for other options that I didn’t want (the only other option in the ultimate package I purchased was the $375 tailgate step). It was nice however that I was able to get power steps without the ultimate package (that’s a recent change).

This has to be one of Fords highest margin options. I mean, they are free on a brand new $18K Jetta. But I get it that to many, they look cool. I agree with the exception of the bars around the actual headlights (which I do not care for - to each there own I guess).

Just a country boy bored on a Sunday morning. Have a nice day y’all.
