So I got pulled over the other by the local police to notify me that me tail lights are both out. I checked the fuse and the light bulbs and they are both fine. I also put a voltmeter to the connection and it didn't read anything. I have the same problem with my reverse lights.
So...Where would I start looking to fix this problem??
The turn signals work fine as do the brake lights, its just the tailights that don't go on when I turn my lights on
The brake lights and tail lights are on a double filament bulb. My turn signals work fine, does anyone know if the turn signals are the same filament as the tail lights?
If so then the problem is not getting power to the filament but somewhere in the running lights system....
Get an electrical diagram for the truck first. Even though yoru turn signals work fine, the tail lights may not if they go through the turn signal switch. I had an old 81 F150 and the turn signals worked perfectly but the tail lights would sometimes work, sometimes not.
Definitely check tail light grounds first.
Get yourself a circuit tester. I have one of the types that look like a cross between a screw driver and ice pick with a bulb in the handle. It allows you to poke around quickly to find these problems.
