C6 Questions

My C6 is starting to give me some trouble. When it's cold it doesn't want to shift as if the modulator is stuck in the WOT position. I can manually shift it into 2nd and drive it about a mile and then shift into drive and it works perfectly fine after that. Occasionally it will be slow going into drive and/or reverse but eventually goes in firm and seems to work fine. I think my troubles are either valve body or pump/pressure related but not sure how to tell. I'm contemplating pulling it out and doing a rebuild. Are there any special tools need to rebuild the trans. I used to work at a Chevrolet dealership and rebuilt a ton of TH350/400 trans so I'm familar with auto trans rebuild in general but I think I may have only done 1 C6 way back in the 80s so I don't remember if any special tools were needed.

Sounds like a pressure problem to me. There is a pressure test port on the driver's side of the case. Just ahead of the shift linkage. You will see a threaded plug in that port now. 1/8" pipe thread from memory.
