Progress of Build
The first day when I picked up my 1978 F250. Boy was I happy!
Year: 1978
Model: F250
Displacement: 400ci
Drivetrain: C6, Full time 4x4 3.73 gears
The old man who sold it to me was crying as I was signing the paper work. It had been in his family since new (even had original bill of sale!) he sold it to me since he knew I want to fix it up rather than use it as a beater work truck.
After I got some new wheels and tires on it. Mickey Classic III's (16") wrapped with Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ (approx 33's). I highly recommend these tires by the way!
I traded some work with my professor and he let me bring my truck into his barn, pull the engine and, rebuild it. Luckily my school had an engine machine shop so I was able to prep the block completely.
400ci bored .030" over
squared deck
Align honed mains
cone and honed the rods
Everything was new except crank, rods and, block which were reconditioned.
I used Tim Meyer's pistons (9.3:1), bigger RV Cam (cant recall specs now), ported and polished heads, dual plane intake, 4 barrel 650cfm holley carb
About three years ago, I ordered all new replacement panels and I built a brand new box for my truck with the help of my best friend. Luckily I happened to make friends with this kid in college. Happened to sit next to each other and we had the exact same schedule so naturally we became really good friends. His family owns a bodyshop which he had been working there since very little and eventually became one of the shop's lead painters.
FYI, I probably would not go this route again. The panels fit together terribly and required a lot of rework. Could not have done it without my buddy.
Here is the paint pre-mixed. Any guesses on colors?
"Boring" grey, Selenite Grey (Mercedes). Pretty crazy how many colors go into a grey!
I remember having to pick out a color. I knew I wanted grey but not sure what exactly. I looked at a newer F350 but the shade was a bit too dark, however the flake was near perfect. I then looked at a Grand Cherokee, shade was perfect but the flake was way too big. My buddy hands me a "50 shades of grey" book, a book filled with every shade of grey you can ever imagine. I was overwhelmed. How would I know a 1"x1" square of color would look good on my massive truck. We happened to walk behind the shop where there happened to be a larger Mercedes (ML?) in Selenite Grey. This was nearly perfect in both shade and flake. That is exactly how I ended up with this color.
Note: Any project going forward I will end up picking a manufacturer's color. You are bound to get rock chips and this would make touching them up much easier due to being able to easily buy a paint pen.
I lived in Metro Detroit for about 2 years. I was pretty unhappy here and found a job elsewhere. This was the state of my truck 2 days before I moved! I ended up getting to my new location without any delays!
I ended up pulling my 400. I had a starter issue and eventually had to pull it. I ended up selling this engine as I received a generous offer that I couldn't pass up.
Here is the new engine. A 12V Cummins. I got a good deal from my friend and picked this up. I had always wanted to do a diesel swap. Naturally I wanted to keep it a "Ford Product" but when a good deal presents itself, you snag it.
Here are a few parts I have for it. a Hamilton Stage 3 Street head and a S475 Borg. I am still accumulating parts but boy if I had known how expensive diesel parts were, I probably would have stuck with a gasser. I am commited now though!
Building up a compound turbo engine and will be making all the plumbing myself. Shooting for +800Hp , we will see where we hit though
I have read about frame issues and grenading axles so I got incredibly lucky with this find. a 2018 Ram 2500 Chassis. Here me out.
Stronger Boxed Frame
Stronger Axles
Modern Suspension (4 coils so should ride better)
Came with hydroboost brake master
Bolt Pattern is the Same
4 disc brakes (may have to up my wheel size though)
Wheel spacing bother front to back and left to right is very close to our trucks.
Obviously I will have to cut some out and make body mount for it to fit my body as it is a Megacab, long bed truck.
I have also experimented with Carbon Fiber as I my budget does not allow me to buy premade parts. I am wanting to make my front end all carbon but we will see how it goes! The process itself is very simple but physically doing it is pretty challenging. Above is my third attempt at making a part (Steering column cover, not trimmed). it turned out okay but had a small vacuum leak and not enough release agent so the mold bonded to the part.
This isn't an entire list of everything I have done but some of the more interesting projects. I forgot to mention I also swapped out the C6 and NP203 to a NP435 and NP205 (4spd manual part time 4x4), that was a project.
Although I have done alot of work to my truck, I feel like I am starting almost from scratch. Over these years, my friends, family, and random people have all shown interest and because of that I have decided to start filming everything I do to my truck or for my truck. In the picture above you can see my shop. I have been working on renovating my shop and this is where my channel begins. I have to build my shop first before I can begin building my truck.

If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask I LOVE talking trucks! Lets see your projects too!
How about keep the original thread and just add to it? I started 1 thread for my Bronco build in Dec 2010 and keep it alive by adding to it as often as I can. The 1 thread is alive and well today. Adding to your original thread will keep it bumped to the top.

Thought to be at the top it had to be a new thread all together. Someone had mentioned to list what I have done/will be doing and that Is why I started the new thread.
