Rebuilding my steering column from top to bottom & all parts in between ('73 F100, auto, P/S). As I begin reassembly need to know what contact points (if any) should be greased/lubed. Every part has been removed, cleaned & re painted (where applicable). Went with the all metal bearing for lower steering shaft. Just need to be sure I lube/grease any areas where it may be required (linkages, shifter, turn signal switch, ?). Thanks folks !
Sure did. Got it back together & it performs like new again. Went on Facebook & found a fella who rebuilds 73'-'79 columns for a livng (DRB Machine Fab). He was kind enough to provide what should be lubed/greased before these columns go back together. If you have an auto column shift like mine the areas you want to grease/lube (I used Moly) are as follows : bottom of shift tube where spring goes over, lower steering shaft bearing (I went with the aftermarket steel pre greased one), where the shift collar & column flange meet, upper column bearing (new ones should come pre greased), spring/button where shift lever interact, shift lock out plate or detent, & turn signal switch @ base & pin. Good luck & play it forward.....
