I have a 1991 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat 4x4 and my motor is wore out. I have a 1977 motor out of a Ford LTD and wondered IF the block and bottom half is the same, it’s the 5.0/302. I know I would have to use my heads and top half, but need to know if the rest would work?

I miss my 77 LTD but yours was probably faster. mine had a c6 and a 400 2 barrel. 0-60 in about 18 seconds.
im going to assume the block will work on a pre 94(i think 94?) but thats a lot of work for a meh drivetrain why not step it up and get something off fb

yes the 77 motor was given to me, but I also have a 5.8/351 I could use just hate to have to change computers and all that stuff lol
i dont think you would need a new computer for the 351? Similar engine just different sizing
My understanding is it controls the air control and all from what I was told a few years ag when I was going to use a 351. I have also heard the 302 is a tougher engine than the 351 but I am not sure.
The '77 302 will work in the truck but it's even less powerful than the motor it came with.
Ok. So I know I will need a new flex plate which I have, and I know the exhaust is a little wider, and I know I will have to change computer. The 5.8 is in a van, so I know that computer won’t work. And I am also not sure on my transmission, but I assume it’s the AOD? It’s the automatic with overdrive, anything else I should consider before I rebuild the 5.8? And when I am rebuilding, what’s the best type of piston, cam, and stuff to put into the engine to make it more powerful? Sorry for so many questions but I want to do this one time and one time only and I am in no hurry to do it.
What year is the van? If it's a '94+ it doesn't need any upgrades to be quite a bit more powerful than the 5.0 your truck had. You need the flexplate that was used in the mid '80s crown vic with the 5.8w and AOD, that was the only vehicle where the two were combined. It will have a 164 tooth ring gear and 28oz imbalance.
I'll also give the 5.8 my vote. Put it in, use the 5.0 controls and all will be well.
Still, back to your original question,

Every Windsor V8 I have ever pulled from a truck has the football headed rod bolts. Everything from a car had the straight cut on the rods and the rectangular headed rod bolts. Those football headed bolts were sometimes referred to as Cobra Jet bolts although that may be a fairly optimistic term. Bottom line is the truck engine had a better bottom end.
You dont have to change the computer out, to make truck run it will run just fine, Nice truck, by the way, how much lift you got.
i installed a 6” lift myself and bought new wheels and tires. I have been working out of town for the last 5 weeks starting in California, and the to Las Vegas where I am now until Jan 2nd. When I get home I will install new wheels and tires and get my front end aligned. I will post a pic afterwards.
