hey guys i've got a 92 f150 4x4 with a 302 in it. It's got a rear-main seal leak, valves ticking and it just runs like ****... so i was thinking about picking up a used motor for about $200 and doing some upgrades on it and changing all the seals and swapping out out... so my question is, which motor would drop right in? i found a 302 out of a 94 mustang... would that work? or are the truck motors diffrent? should i be looking for a truck motor? any changes throughout the years i should be aware of?
Same block so you just need to change over the oil pan . Water pump ps ect to the new motor . I think your 92 should should be a roller motor ??? But it will work either way . Lew
oh so the oil pan will need to be transfered over? i'm buying a complete 94 mustang 5.0 motor, which is why i'm asking what i would need to switch over from my old motor to the new one...
You want to use the truck AC . ps . water pump . timing cover . intake . dist . What all are you getting out of the stang . ??? Intake mass air meter ??? You need to use all the accessories from the truck so all the hoses Ect work ..Lew
well i just talked to the guy with the mustang motor, aparently the water pump is dmaged and so are a couple of pulleys. aparently the throttle body is damaged too, but still works... would the throttle body off my truck motor work, or should i try find an SBC one or something for a replacement?
The only thing I would use from the stang is the longblock itself, it will be much easier to swap over all of the accesories than try to reuse the stangs and try to patch them into your truck.
You can use the intake & throttle off the truck . If you want to use the mustang intake you will need a new throttle body ..SBC ??? I think thats against the law . I use the truck intake on the HO in my truck & it works great .. It sounds like you want to use all the accessories off the mustang . I have never done that . Lew
oh i see, so all i really need is the long block then, i shouldnt worry about the water pump and so on? i also found a 89 lincoln towncar 5.0, its not a HO, sounds exactly like the motor in my truck... its got less milage then the mustang motor, both are $300... which one would be a better buy? if im only using the long block off the mustang, would it matter that its a HO motor, would there still be more power from that motor then the 89 lincoln motor?
The cam in the HO motor is what's responsible for higher output, and it will actually make even more peak HP with the truck intake in it.This is the motor you want.
also, are the flywheels the same on the mustang motors as the truck motors? what if the mustang was a 5spd? should i just put the flywheel from my truck motor onto the mustang motor anyway, jsut to be safe? or will the truck flywheel unballance the mustang motor?
