Help programming Brake controller
2018 F150 3.5 Ecoboost CC 4X4
Hey all,
Working on a friends truck, trying to program the factory trailer brake controller that we just added. After install, we plugged in the wiring harness and used forscan to enable trailer brake control module, and trailer brake gain module, as per instructions. When the truck is turned on,, display says "trailer brake control fault". Forscan indicates a DTC U0137. We have checked all the connections, fuses and wiring and cannot find a short.
Can someone point us in the right direction?

The above is true. Ford vehicles, for a long time now, have not played well with knockoff parts and components, particularly electrical components.
There is also the possibility that you got the wrong brake controller if you bought a Ford one, there was a change made right around the year of your truck, so if you happened to get the wrong one you could have a whole host of issues.

Let us know how this issue plays out. Just curious, where did you get the part in question from? There are a bunch of counterfeit Motorcraft parts on the internet and Amazon. If the price was too good to be true, it probably was. There is a great video on Youtube about learning to spot counterfeit Motorcraft parts.

At $60 I will bet it was a knock-off. Sorry this happened, so frustrating! I paid $110 or so approx 2 years ago from Fairway Ford in Ohio. Just have your VIN handy when placing your next order. Good luck!

That said, I think my dealer charged $150 installed for the TBC on my wife's 2019. This was a couple years ago, but everything works correctly so I'm quite happy with it.
