I'm building my project truck currently, it's a 79 cab on a 72 F-250 highboy chassis, 4wd, 4 speed. It was my grandpa's project, he has done much to it, but I still need to finish it.One issue I'm having is with steering, with it being a 72 chassis it has manual steer, it's a big and heavy truck so it's pretty difficult, I could put a power steering pump and gearbox on it, but I've heard that you have to cut the frame, the chassis is rust free and un-molested I'd like to keep it that way.
Would I be able to put a rack and pinion in it or would I run into the same issue, and will rack and pinion be able to handle heavy loads on the truck?
You might post this over on the 67-72 forum..........lots of guys have done this.....several different options. Also the search feature here brings up lots of info.
....Almost forgot the sticky threads on that forum......
