Bed wood

I am trying to decide whether to use the traditional wood or use the aluminum bed wood. Pros and cons. Any pictures

I think if the truck is stored out of the weather, the wood will last a long time. If restoration is the gosl then trafitional wood.
The durability of the alternate msterials would be the only reason to deviate imho.

In Missouri insects and rot would be your concern, similar to mine in NC. I used a wood called padauk that has similar qualities of teak at a fraction of the cost. It is reddish at first then dark brown after a few weeks outside.

I used Hickory in my bed. Luckily it didn't cost me anything for the wood since it was from a tree my dad cut down and had milled. But it did cost me a lot to buy a good planer to get the boards to correct thickness.

Padauk is actually fairly reasonable at approximately $10 per board foot, that comes out to $320 for the bed wood ,aluminum is around $1200 and you have a wide variety of wood grain patterns or graphics to choose from. Add to the price if you can't mill the padauk boards yourself..

Here's mine, it's oak. Only bolts showing are on the sides and the rear cross brace.

I also used Oak. I added a reddish stain to go with the Teal color I chose.
